Writing from the Four Directions facilitated by Trebor Healey
Calling all writers, poets, memoirists, essayists, journalers and anyone who has ever dreamed of exploring their life experience and the world around them through the written word. We invite you to come crack open your heart, your spirit, the treasure trove of your inner life.
Acclaimed poet, novelist, and workshop leader Trebor Healey is facilitating a writing workshop and retreat for the LGBT community at Saratoga Springs Retreat Center, 20 minutes east of Ukiah in Northern California.
Trebor Healey is one of our most powerful and authentic GLBT writers in the field today. Trebor Healey, winner of two Publishing Triangle awards, a Violet Quill Award and a Lambda Literary Award, and the author of A Horse Named Sorrow, Faun and Sweet Son of Pan, will be facilitating this writing workshop.
A popular workshop leader, Trebor is hugely inventive, fun and deeply devoted to the experience of being gay today. He has taught a wide variety of workshops, including at the Between the Worlds Queer Men’s Gathering in Ohio, the LA Gay and Lesbian Center, San Francisco’s LYRIC and St. Paul’s Quatrefoil Library, as well as at universities, arts centers, youth centers and men’s gatherings around the country. Check his website for more information on his work.
The goal of this workshop is to deepen our writing practice, whether we write professionally, for fun, for our own personal development and inner exploration, or for all of the above.
Open to all levels of writers, from novice to professional, the workshop will be structured around the four directions, so that each day we will focus intensely on that aspect of our experience, with the last day being a day of integration. So, whether it be the writer as warrior from the north (nonfiction) or the storyteller from the south (fiction), the writer as visionary from the east (poetry) or the exploration and understanding of our experience from the sanctuary of the west (memoir), we will explore the parts of ourselves that are often unexpressed, unclear, unfocused or in need of attention. The idea is to widen our creativity, take the time to explore and better understand our experience, deepen our vision and make space for our full potential as creative beings.
